Forget Chutney: The Spicy Upgrade Your Weekend Cheeseboard is Missing
Share
If there’s one thing we take seriously in the UK, it’s a weekend cheeseboard.
A good block of mature cheddar, some creamy brie, a handful of crackers, and a glass of wine—it’s the ultimate Friday night comfort. For years, the standard pairing has always been a sweet onion chutney or a fig jam. But recently, both we and our amazing customers have been swapping the sweet stuff for something entirely different: our Garlic Chilli Crisp.
And honestly? We are never going back.
Why it works so perfectly Think about the science of a great bite. Cheese is rich, heavy, and beautifully creamy. To balance that richness, you need something that cuts through the fat.
While chutney does this with sugar and vinegar, our Garlic Chilli Crisp does it with a deep, savoury umami and a satisfying, slow-roasted crunch. When the golden garlic flakes and the natural fruity heat of the Sichuan chilli oil hit the creamy texture of the cheese, it creates a flavour combination that is dangerously addictive.
The Ultimate Platter Inspiration (As seen on our IG!) Need visual proof? Take a look at our recent weekend setup. We placed a beautiful wheel of creamy Brie right in the centre and loaded the middle with a massive scoop of our Garlic Chilli Crisp.
We surrounded it with fresh green grapes, plump blueberries, twisted breadsticks, and some prosciutto-wrapped melon. The spicy, garlicky crunch mixed with the sweet fruit and salty cured meats is an absolute flavour explosion. (Watch the video at the bottom of this page to see it in action!)
The Best Cheeses to Pair with Garlic Chilli Crisp: You can put it on almost anything, but here is what we’ve found works best:
Creamy Brie or Camembert: This is the ultimate match. The soft, gooey texture of the cheese wraps around the crispy garlic bits. If you bake your Camembert, spoon a generous amount of our chilli crisp right into the centre as soon as it comes out of the oven.
Extra Mature Cheddar: The sharp, tangy bite of a classic British cheddar holds its own perfectly against the complex, savoury heat of the broad bean paste and chillies.
Soft Goat’s Cheese: The fresh, slightly tart flavour of goat's cheese paired with the earthy, roasted garlic is a match made in heaven. Spread it on a piece of toasted sourdough and drizzle the crisp on top.
How to build the perfect bite: Keep it simple. Grab a good, sturdy cracker or a breadstick. Add a thick slice of your favourite cheese. Now, take a spoon and make sure you scoop up plenty of the crispy garlic flakes from the bottom of the jar, and drizzle it right over the top.
Pour a glass of wine, put on a good film, and enjoy.
